Let this be a lesson

I have this really terrible habit when I make a dress for myself.  Usually it happens when I am making it for a special event that is rapidly approaching. Like this particular weekend.  I had made the royal blue dress for a wedding I was going to on Friday, but we also had a wedding on Saturday.  So I decided I needed another dress for that one.  On top of everything else I had to do.

Since the dress was for me, I decided I could skip a step here, rush a detail there - who would know but me?

Well, I ended up making this dress and then tearing it apart twice.  I was up nights, correcting mistakes, and cursing myself for being such a bonehead.  I hate it. I never want to see it again.  I'm not proud of it.  And you only get one picture.  Its going in the scrap pile.

I shudder when I look at it.  I've been giving it dirty looks for a week.

So to get back into good spirits, I cleaned the lair.  I took down a ton of nails and pattern pieces and hung up some inspiration.

Much better.

I got this painting for $25 at the Brooklyn Flea on Sunday (got her down from $30, yeah that's right, I haggled).  I think its pretty.

I printed these pictures out and then glued some balsa wood around the edge to frame them.  Some old ladies in bathing suits from the 20s, an old McCall's magazine cover, and a picture of Paul Poiret in a fitting.

Inspired once again, I got back to work.

  1. Aww, that's too bad about the dress. It looks like it would be really cute.

  2. I actually did wear it! It looked okay but I just have attached so much frustration and hatred to it :)
