The Oscars: 2013

Last night's show was not a disappointment in the fashion department, thank heaven.  The very first dress made me gasp with glee, and that is all I ask of my red carpets.  Since the show was very long, and somewhat drawn out there at the end,  I am just going to group my best and worst.  Lets start with...the worst:

Brandi Glanville in a dress of her own design.

Okay, I can appreciate a lady designing her own gown (although one wonders about her actual contribution).  Was she eight inches shorter when it was fit? Where is that bodice supposed to be?  What's going on?  How is it staying up?  Why is Brandi Glanville at the Oscars?

Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood.

Part of me debated putting her here because sometimes I think she's just punking everyone.

Melissa McCarthy in David Meister

I usually really love her look, from dress to hair to makeup.  This is a bedazzled t-shirt.  And her hair is looking all sorts of crazy:

Kristen Stewart in unwashed hair.

She was wearing a beautiful (yet ill-fitting) gown, but I'm not even going to show it because its so unfair to it.

And the winner is....

Anne Hathaway in Prada

Ugh...

Egh...

Ickgh. This broad.  This satin apron, complete with terribly-placed darts, and the strangest waistline in all the land, was just bleh.  It was also just ever-so-slightly see-through.  The necklace was totally wrong with that straight neckline, and oh, every time she speaks I want to climb underneath my house.

And now onto the good stuff!

Best Hair: Reese Witherspoon

Perrrrrrrfection.  I gotta say, I just finished watching Fashion Police and I'm a little disappointed. They kept saying how great she looked "for just having had a baby."  Like more than once.  C'mon Katsiopoulos.

Best Makeup: Jennifer Lawrence

She may have taken a little spill, but I don't think anyone of those ladies would have handled it as amazingly as J-Law.  Go 'head gurl.  Her smokey eyes and natural lips were the perfect compliment to that Dior gown.

Halle Berry in Marchesa

You all know how big a fan of stripes I am and I am SO glad that Halle redeemed herself after the Globes.

Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta

The more I saw this dress, the more I just hands down ADORED it.   She looks so lovely and ethereal - perfect with her skin tone and hair.  She looked like she was just floating down the carpet.  So girly.

Amanda Seyfried in Alexander McQueen

I have to disagree with the Fashion Police on this one - I thought she looked amaaaazing.  They kept saying her hair looked too old for her, that she was "soooo young",  and that her dress didn't fit.
1.  She's 27.  She's not 18.  I think it is not only appropriate, but a really refreshing new look for her.  Gawgeous.
2.  I thought the same thing about top of her dress not always laying completely flat, and was chit-chatting about it to Chris last night (who may or may not have been listening).  To have the chest of that dress anchored to her neck, she needs to be able to move her neck around.  Her chin is down in the above pic, but if she had to lift it up, she'd be choked to death.  I think its amazing.

Naomi Watts in Armani Prive

One of the two dresses to make just freak the heck out.  She looks OUTrageous.  It fits her like a goshdarn glove and that neckline is just the right touch of futuristic glam.  LOVE.

and the winner is....

Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive

Once I caught my breath,  picked my chin up off the floor, and composed my damn self, I knew that this was it.  It was the first gown I saw and I mentally dared everyone else to try and beat it.  She has never looked better, in my opinion.  Her hair is amazing, her skin is flawless and her bod is TDF.  I can't sing her praises enough!

Until next year!
